How Estate Appraisals Work

01

Call or Text First

Describe what you have so we can prepare. A rough description — coin types, approximate quantity, condition — is enough to get started.

02

Bring the Collection In

Come in to 9778 Oakbrook Dr Suite 3, Highland, Utah. Bring the items as you found them — do not clean or sort coins before the appraisal.

03

Evaluation

We identify each piece, evaluate gold and silver content, note condition and any collector value, and give you a clear breakdown of what we found.

04

Offer and Decision

We make an offer based on current market conditions. No pressure. You decide whether to sell, take the appraisal information, or both.

Why Estate Collections Require Extra Care

Estate collections are rarely sorted or labeled. They often mix bullion coins, collector coins, 90% silver, foreign coins, and items with uncertain value all in the same box. Getting an accurate appraisal requires identifying each piece individually rather than treating the whole collection as one category.

Some items in an estate may have collector value beyond their metal content — pre-1933 U.S. gold, key-date Morgan dollars, or certain foreign coins. Treating those as generic bullion would undervalue them. We evaluate for both metal content and collector premium where applicable.

We also understand the time pressure that can come with estate situations. We move efficiently and can often complete an appraisal and same-day purchase in a single visit.

Before You Bring in an Estate Collection

Do not clean or polish any coins or metals — this can reduce value significantly
Keep items in their original holders, cases, or packaging if present
Do not sort or separate coins from their lot — bring them as found
Call ahead for large collections so we can allocate time appropriately
Bring any paperwork, certificates, or purchase receipts you find with the collection
You do not need to know what anything is worth before coming in — that is what the appraisal is for

Frequently Asked Questions

We evaluate each piece in the collection — identifying the metal type, purity, weight, coin type, condition, and any collector value. You receive a clear breakdown of what each item is worth and why, based on current market conditions.

Yes. We work with heirs, executors, and estate attorneys to evaluate and purchase gold, silver, coins, bars, and bullion from estates. We can move quickly when timing matters and handle both small collections and large estate holdings.

We evaluate gold and silver coins (including rare and pre-1933 U.S. gold), silver bars, bullion, 90% silver, foreign coins, jewelry with metal content, and other precious metal items. We do not typically appraise non-metal collectibles, currency, or non-precious items.

There is no charge for an appraisal when you are considering selling to us. Call or text first to describe what you have so we can prepare appropriately for your visit.

Older coins are evaluated for both metal content and any collector or numismatic premium. Factors include the coin type, date, mintmark, grade, and current demand. Pre-1933 U.S. gold coins, Morgan and Peace dollars, and other collector coins are evaluated carefully rather than just by metal weight.

For large estate collections, call us first to discuss the scope. We handle most appraisals at our Highland, Utah location where we have the tools to evaluate items accurately, but we can discuss options for larger or more complex estate situations.

Most appraisals are completed the same day. For large or complex collections, it may take longer to accurately evaluate every item. Call ahead so we can prepare and give you a realistic time estimate.

Evaluate an Inherited Collection

Call, text, or send us a message describing what you have. We can give you a sense of next steps before you come in, and complete the appraisal same-day in most cases.
